Executive Producer, Rickey Smiley Morning Show
Overview:
Syndicated Network targeting the African-American community is seeking an Executive Producer for the award winning, Rickey Smiley Morning Show.
Candidate will be responsible for creating an informative and entertaining show that generates listeners while overseeing the daily technical, creative, compliance and budgetary operations of the on-air broadcast. Candidate will also be responsible for management of on-air talent and production staff.
Position is based in Dallas, TX.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement programming strategies for audience growth and engagement by analyzing ratings data, social media and listener feedback.
- Listen and critique show, review with all talent and staff, brainstorm ideas to generate and improve show content.
- Determine program content within REACH Media guidelines and standards.
- Supervise the daily technical and production of the show by assigning production segments, maintaining content database, managing show logs and overseeing execution of content on social media sites.
- Manage on-air, programming and production staff including PTO & timesheet approval and conflict resolution.
- Produce specialty shows including coordination of engineering and on-location set-up.
- Write material for scripts, show rundowns, call list and/ or interview questions, including timely breaking news or topics.
- Prepare for daily show by delivering final show rundown and call list to the studio staff and conduct prep meetings prior to start of broadcast with studio support staff.
- Contribute to and making use of archives and audio resources which can be used for “Best Of” and / or “Emergency” shows.
- Ensure all show content complies with regulatory standards, including FCC guidelines, copyright laws and industry code of conduct. Monitor and address any compliance issues and complaints related to show content.
- Work with Finance to manage show programming budget including salaries, production costs, promotions and miscellaneous items. Identity cost saving opportunities and efficiencies.
- Liaison between all departments within Reach Media and other Urban One entities regarding various promotional opportunities and initiatives including special projects and events.
- Provide intermediary communication between Ad Sales and Talent.
- Ensure talent and support staff execute and follow programming clock.
- Book and pre-interview on-air guests, including appropriate and timely newsmakers.
- Ensure all technical connections are secured and functional prior to broadcast.
- Maintain online guest booking calendar.
- Oversee “real-time” execution of program in coordination with studio staff, to include dissemination of network initiatives, promotions, events, and/or contesting.
- Prepare and send run down of the next day's show to designated point person for program’s social media. Highlight pertinent content each day and send immediately after the show or during the show to the program's social media contact.
- Produce content for various outside correspondents, talent/programming segments, rejoins, demos, etc.
- Coordinate and brainstorms creative ideas with show host, staff and programming management.
- Coordinate talent studio/broadcast needs when broadcasting from offsite location.
- Direct on-air talent.
- Produce and script daily promo.
- Refresh/Create new imaging and drops on a consistent basis.
- Distribute Talent/on-air and supporting staff PTO calendars.
- Verify and sign studio traffic logs per REACH Media Policy.
- Post program content to Program’s various Social Media platforms.
- Participate in scheduled Operational/Programming/interactive meetings as requested.
- Work with Executive Management to set goals for ratings performance in affiliate markets.
- Prepare a weekly planning calendar for show to include, but not limited to, booking guests, promotions, campaigns, interactive, programming content, and other characteristics of Talent’s Show.
- Plan calendar of PR and community relations opportunities for the talent’s core business, executives and initiatives.
- Voice spots/production for the show as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Strong organizational and leadership skills to effectively manage department responsibilities and motivate and inspire personnel.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse staff, executive management and outside parties.
- Strong understanding of FCC broadcasting rules and regulations.
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills.
- Must be strategic and implement initiatives.
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- High level of creativity and ability to develop show concepts.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word & Excel and the Internet.
- BA/BS college level degree in Broadcasting or relevant study.
- Demonstrated success working in radio programming, production.
- Understanding of radio industry software and tools including audio editing (Audio Wide Orbit, Adobe Audition, MCart technology and VoxPro), music scheduling software and audience measurement metrics.
- Strong understanding of the digital environment including website updates, video editing, blog maintenance and contributing to social media content (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc).
- Flexibility to adjust work schedule as needed in order to support show demands.
- Ability to travel as needed for remote broadcasts.
Experience/Education:
- BA/BS college level degree preferred and/or a minimum of 3 plus years relevant experience in broadcasting or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working as an Executive Producer.
- Strong understanding of all FCC rules and regulations.
- Network experience preferred but not required.
