Position:    Managing Editor, BlackAmericaWeb.com & Reach Media Digital Properties

Overview:

Syndicated Network targeting the African-American community is seeking a Managing Editor, BlackAmericaWeb.com & Reach Media Digital Properties to manage the overall editorial focus of BlackAmericaWeb.com including developing, producing and maintaining content for website as well as all digital properties of Reach Media.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management of all editorial initiatives and the posting of content to the official web portal, Black America Web and direction of Reach Media websites. 
  • Manage Content Producers and Independent Contractors, if applicable including performance as well as schedules.
  • Generate original ideas as well as work to enhance existing ideas to reflect and extend the programming of all REACH shows on BlackAmericaWeb.com and all syndicated radio show websites, as well as microsites/initiatives. 
  • Cross post content from Interactive One and local radio sites.
  • Manage content provided by Interactive One.
  • Troubleshoot back-end issues.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication, idea generation and coordination through regularly scheduled Programming, BAW, Syndicated Radio shows and initiative meetings.
  • Work directly with Programming and department staff to develop and post content that supports on air and online projects on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide proofing, editing and copy writing support for editorial content.
  • Partner with Marketing department to develop social strategy and oversee targeted social initiatives through Facebook and Twitter and Text Messaging.
  • Work on various projects as assigned by Executive Management.
  • Partner with various companies/organizations to develop brand selling ideas and generate revenue through Reach Media’s interactive properties.
  • Work in concert with ad operations team to oversee ad operations and workflow is complimented by content.
  • Implement and manage content budget.
  • Manage online editors/writers and content development. 
  • Interact with platform management and design.
  • Check with legal counsel on any question or issues related to content ownership, libel and plagiarism.  Manages understanding with all digital staff.
  • Work in concert with the Exec Vice President of Sales on strategic interactive monetizing of content.
  • Attend executive meeting and sales meeting.
  • Gather analytical data to compile and calculate BAW weekly reports.
  • Gather data to compile reports for Interactive One.
  • Work with senior management, Interactive One and BAW staff.
  • Ensure current ad campaigns can be fulfilled in new CMS environment.

Requirements:  

  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills to work with diversified group of individuals.
  • Solid experience proofing, editing and writing creative copy.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high pressured environment.
  • Solid familiarity with HTML, Photoshop, digital video, digital audio.
  • Experience and skilled in Microsoft software applications.
  • Experience resizing and cropping images for online distribution.
  • Knowledge and/or experience posting online content.

Experience/Education: 

  • B.A./B.S. in Journalism, Communications or other relevant field or quantifiable job experience.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working in Interactive Media.
  • Understands and abides by all content rights of others and liabilities related to libel, plagiarism, and content ownership.  

Compensation:     Competitive salary based on qualifications/experience.

Location:         New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Maryland. 

Reports To:        Director of Content, Radio One Digital
