Senior Associate Editor, BlackAmericaWeb (BAW), Reach Media Properties & Radio One Dallas
Overview:
Responsible for managing digital content for BlackAmericaWeb.com (BAW), Reach Media Digital Properties, TheBeatDFW.com and Majic945.com by sourcing, writing original content and editing. In addition, provide assistance to the Managing Editor and Digital Producers as needed on additional assignments.
Additional responsibilities include content curation, editing and posting of audio, video and photos as well as transcripts and sharing content through social media and databases.
The position is located in Dallas, TX.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor web traffic and create digital reports for Reach and local programming using Unique Visitors (UVs) and Pageviews (PVs). Other performance metrics including time spent, bounce rates, and impressions will also be used.
- Report on, and engage with, local Dallas-Fort Worth and surrounding area events and activities
- Scope, edit, and write posts about news, celebrity, entertainment, and gossip collected from both the local and national level as well as aggregate content from internal and external sources.
- Record & edit Celebrity interviews and create original content as needed.
- Utilize experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals by studying the landscape of Editorial Media (SEO, social media, etc.) to create strategies to grow the brands for Radio One Dallas and Reach Media.
- Train radio personalities in the creation and maintenance of content.
- Collaborate with the stations' Program Director, Operations Manager, and/or Marketing/Promotions leads to maintain the vision, voice, and brand direction of the station online.
- Work with Managing Editor, Reach Media to create Editorial Content & social media specifically for The Willie Moore, Jr Show, The Nightly Spirit and provide support for other Reach Media Syndicated Brands as requested.
- Update websites and social media with compelling and updated content by identifying content from our national sites that may fit with our brands for Radio One and Reach.
- Ensure compelling and up-to-date content is always available.
- Maintain and grow all digital platforms including the station’s social network accounts, SMS clubs, mobile streaming apps, and newsletters.
- Work with the Managing Editor and Director of Content to leverage national programming opportunities, tools, and strategies including video content and social media.
- Additional assignment and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with diversified group of individuals.
- Excellent writing skills to generate creative content.
- Flexible and able to react positively to challenge and change.
- Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high- pressured environment.
- Must be engrained with, and/or deep knowledge of, African American music and culture.
- Familiar with all websites that cover African American news, entertainment, celebrity, gossip and events.
- Knowledge of how to publish to and maintain a site using a content management system (CMS), WordPress.
- Experience writing a variety of content styles for publishing including AP, editorial, and blog style.
- Must be able to perform photo resizing as well as audio and video editing using programs including Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to analyze metrics.
- Working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices.
- Social media savvy with experience using mobile apps and creating social content.
- Current knowledge of interactive trends, best practices, and digital experiences.
- Must be highly organized and have excellent time management and execution skills – an entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to work independently.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Solid familiarity with HTML, Photoshop, digital video, and digital audio.
Education:
- B.A./B.S. in Journalism, Communications or other relevant field or quantifiable job experience.
- Knowledge of and/or experience working in Interactive Media.
- Understands and abides by all content rights of others and liabilities related to libel, plagiarism, and content ownership.
